FAQ - Frequently asked questions

 In Japanese they say: "Kiku wa ichiji no haji kikanu wa isshô no haji" (聞くは一時の恥聞かぬは一生の恥), meaning "To ask is but a temporary shame, to not do it makes one shameful for the rest of their life"

From what age can one join?

We might accept all kind of person from the age of 15-16 (autorization from a parental authority is required for underage people).

Is it necessary to have a previous martial arts experience?

No, it's not. We "simply" require respect, passion and determination.

Is it required to have the material to begin?

No, for trial classes we will provide the sword and concerning clothing you just need to bring clothes comfortable enough for a "sport" activity.

Is it mandatory to attend every training?

No, we understand that everyone has their own life besides the warrior arts. Having several  chances to train every week should be seen more like an occasion. That being said, consistency and regularity are necessary.

Is it to possible to do a trial lesson?

Yes, we give the opportunity of taking 3 free trial classes. We want to give you the chance to understand the environment within our dōjō and if you are motivated to commit.

What are the costs?

Every dōjō establishes its own tax at the beginning of the social year consifering the frequency of the trainings and of the forsehadowed costs (notably the rent for the gym rooms); it usually is between 200.- and
450.- 
Concerning the basic material (keikogi, obi, bag and bokken) one has to count roughly a hundred francs.

Are there any gender restrictions?

The only basic criteria we have are simply the minimum age and the mutual respect. The Wa Rei Ryū it's a non-political, non-religious institution that wants to be a safe space where everyone is welcome.

In what language are the classes given?

At the dōjō Jouen (Lausanne) the classes are mainly given in French and at dōjō Ketsui in Italian (Lugano) and  English; that being said, integrating other languages (notably English and Spanish) is foreseeable.

If I enroll in one dōjō, can I go to the trainings of the other ones?

Yes, since the different dōjō are all part of the same association the members can freely go (it is even highly recommended in the framework of stages) to the trainings of the other ones.
